LAURA is a powerful signal processing board with a USB 2.0 interface for connection of CMOS and CCD sensors as well as for general signal acquisition, analysis, and process control. For data input and output LAURA has a digital interface with 32 I/O ports. The computing power is provided by highly integrated FPGA and a fast digital signal processor.Through the use of reconfigurable logic, the signal processing board LAURA can be configured easily for various tasks. LAURA meets the USB specification Rev. 2.0. To operate the board, drivers and libraries are available. Short-term adjustments are possible for special applications. The signal processing card LAURA can also be used without a PC.

Interface

Data acquisition and output is done via a digital interface with 32 I/O ports. The I/O ports are provided via a pin connector. In addition to the pin connector an I2C bus is available. An extension of the I/O ports can be done by using several LAURA signal processing cards. For the direct connection of two signal processing cards a synchronous serial interface with data rates up to 30 Mbit/s is provided. LAURA ist connected to the PC via a USB 2.0 controller with a data rate of 480 Mbit/s

Signal processing

The entire sequence control is done by a highly integrated FPGA. This FPGA controls the measurement process and the transfer of data between the digital interface, the DSP and the USB controller. In addition, the FPGA can do preprocessing of the data. This includes logical operations such as data manipulation, filtering and encoding. The control and parameterization of the digital interfaces is done by control registers from the PC (via the USB bus) or directly from the DSP. All acquired data is transmitted in real time from the FPGA to the DSP or from the USB bus to the PC. The data can be cached in the SRAM. The width of the data bus (to transfer data to or from the SRAM) is 32 bit.

For cost-sensitive solutions that do not require the processing power of the DSP, a stripped-down version without the DSP can be delivered.
